WORKING IN THE CREATIVE MEDIA INDUSTRY WEEK 1: JOB ROLES

The first part of this unit is all about understanding career and employment opportunities in the Games industry. I'll want you over coming weeks to tell me about what jobs are available under what sort of contracts, how people find and are recruited to those jobs, and what kind of professional behaviour will be expected of employees in those jobs. You'll show me your understanding by writing blogposts about each element. Today I simply want you to give me a detailed outline of what kind of jobs are available in the games industry. Do this as follows.

1. Have a look at the following links and get yourself acquainted with what types of job are available in the games industry. Try and read about not just the creative jobs, but also management jobs, technical jobs, editorial jobs like games journalism or story writing, marketing jobs, admin jobs, legal jobs and financial jobs.

2. Open up a new blogpost on your blog and call it - 'Jobs In The Industry'.

3. Give me descriptions of AT LEAST one 'creative' job, one management job, one technical job, and one administrative/legal/financial job in the games industry. For each of these job descriptions I want to know

(a) what the job role entails.
(b) what skills it needs
(c) who you'll liase with most closely in that job
(d) things like typical earnings/hours/work-patterns.

4. Once you have AT LEAST FOUR job descriptions completed check out any links you didn't look at for any extra info you can give. Feel free to add more job descriptors if you wish but make sure you tell me the four things I've asked for in each one. Throughout your work on this unit please graphically illustrate things with images/relevant videos where appropriate.

5. Finally, PUBLISH that blogpost making sure to tag it with the labels INDUSTRY and LEARNING AIM A.


What you should end up with: at least FOUR job descriptions of jobs you're interested in within the Interactive Media.
